About us

A registered society of families from Byatarayanapura, Bengaluru. We hold a pooja at our office every Saturday, and the three-day Mandala Vilakku program each December.

Mandala Vilakku

The Mandala Vilakku Pooja has been observed in Byatarayanapura for sixty years, held each December during Mandalakalam, the forty-one day observance for Lord Ayyappa that leads up to Makaravilakku. It began as a gathering of families and has been carried on by one generation after another since.

2026 is the sixtieth year of that observance.

Bhakta Sangham

As the Pooja grew, the families running it set up a formal body to organise it, and the Sangha's office was established at Byatarayanapura New Extension.

The Sangha is a registered society, which means it keeps a formal committee, maintains accounts, and records its decisions.

A weekly practice

Having an office of its own changed what the Sangham could do. A pooja is now held there every Saturday — pooja, then bhajans, then prasadam — with each week sponsored by one member in rotation. It is a small gathering compared with December, but it is the part that keeps going all year. See Ayyappa Bhaktha Sangha for details.

Everything is organised by volunteers. Families from the locality take on the different parts of it — the pooja arrangements, the bhajan sittings, annadanam, and the day-to-day work at the office.
